KENTUCKY PAINT HORSE BREEDERS ASSOCIATION FUTURITY RULES

1)      Stallions must be donated or have the nomination fee of $250 paid by January 15 of the breeding season for which the stud fees have been donated.  Stallions must be re-donated or nominated each year.

2)      All stallions must be registered with the APHA, AQHA or The Jockey Club.

3)      All mares bred through a purchased stallion service must be registered with the APHA, AQHA or The Jockey Club.

4)      Mare owners must be members of the Kentucky Paint Horse Breeders Association at the time the service is purchased.

5)      Services will be sold at half-price on a first come, first serve basis.  The stud fees are payable to the Kentucky Paint Horse Breeders Association Futurity.  Stallion owners are responsible for providing correct information regarding any guarantees and additional charges.  All fees except the stud fee are to be paid directly to the stallion owner by the mare owner.  The Kentucky Paint Horse Breeders Association will not be responsible for any disputes regarding payment of fees or other terms of the stallion owner’s contract.  Each stud service will be subject to the terms outlined in the stallion owner’s contract.  Stallion owners are expected to adhere to fee schedules they have submitted as part of their stallion nomination form.

6)      Both the stallion owner and the mare owner will receive a letter of acknowledgement when a service sells.  Upon receipt of the letter, the stallion owner is required to send the mare owner a stallion service contract.

7)      Sale of the stallion service or payment of the nomination fee makes all foals of the corresponding foal crop eligible for the Kentucky Breeders Futurity.  If a donated stallion does not sell by May 15 of the corresponding year, a $100 stay fee can be paid to keep that year’s foal crop eligible.  Payment of the stay fee must be made by July 15.

8)      THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS OF ANY KIND FOR ANY REASON.  Should a stallion die or become unfit for service after his season is purchased, the mare owner will have the right to select another unsold stallion of equal value within the same breeding season. If a stallion of greater value is selected, the mare owner will pay the difference.  The KPHBA Futurity will not carry over any obligation to provide the mare owner with a breeding to another stallion, should a foal die or mare not conceive, and the original stallion become unfit for service the following year.  Any and all live foal guarantees shall be between to mare owner and stallion owner.

9)      All monies collected for each year will be held in trust for the foal crop to which it corresponds.  The funds shall be allocated as follows:

a.      25% will be retained for office charges and expenses associated with administering the program, e.g. trophies, advertising, printing, etc.

b.     25% to Weanling classes

c.       25% to Yearling classes

d.     25% to Performance classes

10)  In addition, there will be a 50% payback of entry fee money.  Payback will be on the following percentage scale:

a.      1 horse            1 place            100%

b.     2 horses            2 places            60%, 40%

c.      3-5 horses            3 places            50%, 30%, 20%

d.     6+ horses            5 places            37%, 28%, 20%, 10%, 5%

Beginning with the 2005 foal crop, eligible stallion owners will receive 10% of the purse money won by foals by their stallion. Therefore 10% of purse money will be deducted from the total available purse prior to distribution to the foal owners.  Money from the stallion service sale and entry fees will be added together to determine the total purse.  If there are no entries in a particular class, that money will be added to the purses of the remaining classes for that division.  If there are no entries in a division (weanling, yearling, performance) that money will be added to the remaining divisions for that foal crop.  Prize monies will be mailed within 10 working days of the Futurity.

11)  The placings of two judges will be used to determine the placement in each class.  Each horse will receive 1 point for every horse it beats. In the event of a tie, prize money for those placings will be divided equally between the two horses.

12)  All horses entered in the Futurity must be registered with the American Paint Horse Association.  Breeding stocks are eligible for ALL Futurity classes.  Weanlings must be registered or have a work order number AND a copy of the APHA Breeders Certificate.  No entry will be accepted without proper paperwork. In the event weanlings do not have their registration papers by the Futurity show, monies will be held until a copy of the weanling’s papers are submitted to the Futurity Chair.

13)  Entry fees for each Futurity class will be $50.00 for pre-entries due by September 1.  The post entry fee, including the day of the show will be $75.00.  IF YOU PRE-ENTER YOU ARE ASSUMING A RISK THAT FOR SOME REASON YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO SHOW.  ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS FOR ANY REASON.  DO NOT EVEN ASK.
